Department for Transport publish Road Conditions in England 2014

This morning (5 March) the Department for Transport (DfT) published Road Conditions in England 2014. This year, the DfT have introduced a new series presenting figures on the condition of local authority managed principal 'A' roads and non-principal 'B' and 'C' roads at a regional and national level from 2007/8 to 2013/4: click here for more information.

The headline figures from the publication are:

  • In 2013/ 14, LAs reported that 4 per cent of the principal 'A' road network in England should have been considered for maintenance, the same as in 2012/13 and 1 percentage point lower than in 2007/8
  • In 2013/14, 8 per cent of the non-principal classified 'B' and 'C' road network in England should have been considered for maintenance. This was a decrease of 1 percentage point from 2012/13 and the same as in 2007/08.
